HI THERE!

I’m Gray (they/them), the founder of Moon Jar Design.

In designing with flowers, I open myself up to what they have to say. Nothing I create functions without the collaboration of the flowers, who so effortlessly comfort us, inspire us, and enchant us.

The name "Moon Jar” refers to Korean moon jars, or 달한가리 (dalhangari), which are beautiful ceramic vessels that celebrate the moon and the natural world. With my work, I seek to honor the world around us while, at the same time, opening up glimmers of other worlds of beauty and possibility.

At Moon Jar Design, we strive to prioritize sustainable practices as much as we can and to center queer folks, people of color, and marginalized communities with our work.

Thank you for being here! For floral needs or general inquiries, please get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.

Warmly,
Gray

SUSTAINABILITY

Moon Jar Design is dedicated to sustainability!

Our version of sustainability means sticking to the following guidelines:

  • We put a lot of extra work into sorting through event waste. Any flowers that come home with us are either gifted to friends / neighbors / local businesses, or they get processed. Some might get dried in studio and saved for later re-use, and the rest goes in compost. Recyclables and trash get separated.

I feel very strongly as an artist using natural materials that the materials should return to the earth and complete their life cycle there instead of being thrown away as trash (which is unfortunately the current floral industry standard).

  • No toxic floral foam.

  • We generally try not to use florals that are dyed, bleached, or painted (unless done with an eco-friendly paint or dye).

  • We use care with invasive species (this one involves constant education).

  • We use re-usable materials whenever possible. This means using mechanics like chicken wire and flower frogs that can be used over and over again across projects.

  • We like to buy local when possible. This can’t always happen with every project, but if you’re interested in working with local flowers for your event, we’d love to work with you!
